It is said to have been founded in 1185 (the 1st year of Bunji). According to tradition, Minamoto no Yoritomo received an oracle from the deity Ugajin in a dream on a Snake day in a Snake month of a Snake year, telling him that if he made offerings to the gods and buddhas with the water that springs up here, peace would come to the land. Hojo Tokiyori is also said to have washed coins in this water to relieve the poverty of the people.
Highlights
The distinctive approach, which enters the grounds through a tunnel, is memorable. Visitors can try the coin-washing ritual with the sacred water that wells up inside the cave at the inner shrine. Several small shrines line the cave, giving it a mysterious atmosphere.

It is about a 25-minute walk from the west exit of Kamakura Station on the JR line, and a taxi is convenient. The entrance to the grounds is a tunnel, and a visit takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour. Baskets and incense are provided in the grounds.
