History & Origins
It was founded on October 6, 1883 (the 16th year of Meiji). It was originally known as the guardian deity of metals in general, but in recent years it has become widely known as a shrine for money luck and wealth. Amaterasu Omikami and Tsukuyomi no Mikoto are also enshrined here, so the god of metals is worshipped together with deities who govern the movement of the sun and moon.
Highlights
The gold-colored torii gate, the symbol of the grounds, is famous as a power spot for raising money luck for its golden shine. It is said that keeping a leaf from the ginkgo tree planted in the grounds in your wallet raises your money luck, and during the leaf-fall season the shrine is busy with worshippers looking for leaves. The Fuku-saifu (lucky wallet) is also a popular offering.
Visitor Guide
It is about a 5-minute walk from Nijojo-mae Station on the Subway Tozai Line. The shrine office is open 10:00-16:00, and the grounds can be visited freely. Combining it with Nijo Castle and Nishiki Market is recommended.
Best Season
In late November in autumn, when the ginkgo leaves fall, golden leaves spread across the grounds, and it is especially popular. The year-end and New Year period is busy with worshippers praying for wealth.
