History & Origins

According to shrine tradition, it was founded when Empress Jingu, on her return from the Korean Peninsula, received an oracle to 'enshrine me at Hirota.' It received deep reverence from the imperial court and is listed among the Myojin Taisha in the Engishiki, a shrine with distinguished origins. In 1871 (the 4th year of Meiji) it was ranked as the first Kanpei Taisha in Hyogo Prefecture, showing its high standing.

Highlights

The grounds are surrounded by a broad shrine forest, giving them the solemn atmosphere fitting an ancient shrine. In addition to the main deity, several other deities such as Sumiyoshi, Hachiman, and Suwa are enshrined together, so a variety of blessings can be expected. The annual festival on March 16 features traditional rituals and is cherished by the local community.

It can be reached by about a 15 to 20 minute walk from Nishinomiya-Kitaguchi Station on the Hankyu Kobe Line, or by bus. Worship in the grounds is free. It stands in a quiet spot along the Mukogawa River, where you can worship in a calm atmosphere.
